Kayden al Howiatat
{ Louder, louder // The voices in my head \\ Whispers taunting // All the things you said}
{Faster the days go by and I'm still // Stuck in this moment of wanting you here \\ Time // In the blink of an eye}
{You held my hand, you held me tight // Now you're gone \\ And I'm still crying // Shocked, broken}
{I'm dying inside}

overall description Kayden is medium-sized for an Arabian wolf, but quite small compared to other wolves. She is only about 70 pounds or so, her muscles lean and tough. She is built limber and long rather than her mother’s stocky frame. Her coat is a rich caramel color that gleams closer to gold in direct sunlight. The black patch on her right foreleg is from her father, Kaluan, and she gets the spot on her shoulder from her mother. Kayden has an expressive face, but the scar slashed across her muzzle keeps her from looking too cheerful. The scar on her side is roughly 11 inches long and relatively straight (see history for how she got it); the one on her back paw is only about two inches or so. Kayden has somewhat larger ears than most Arabian wolves, though they have so far escaped most of her fights un-tattered. Kayden’s eyes are olive green, and her eyes are rimmed slightly in dark brown, giving the impression that she is wearing Egyptian kohl makeup, though this isn’t the case. Kayden keeps her muscles tense whenever she is in unfamiliar territory, and has a habit of turning her head slightly to the left when she stops moving. Kayden also has a slight Middle-Eastern accent, which grows more pronounced when she's under stress or in highly emotional situations.
personality Kayden is a strong-willed young wolf who loves to explore. She is secretly fascinated by animals and plants she has not seen before, though she isn’t above eating them in a pinch. Her curiosity, backed by a fierce determination to have her own way and her sense of independence, make her something of a scandalous figure in her own pack. Kayden dislikes being “handled” by males, though she will accept orders from females she respects. Kayden has little head for giving orders herself, preferring to carry them out instead. She isn’t opposed to the idea of finding a mate and having pups, but loathes the idea of not being able to choose for herself, and her dislike of males makes it difficult for any of them to get close enough where it would be a possibility. The limits of Kayden’s puphood society have turned her against anything they stood for- honor, deference to elders, and subservient behavior in females. Kayden prefers dirty fighting to honorable duels, talks back to older, more respected wolves if she deems it necessary, and pushes herself to the limits of her capabilities, often leaving her on the border of collapsing from sheer exhaustion. She has little patience, especially with weaker-willed females and catching fish. Kayden likes to hunt, however, and can spend hours tracking her prey. Overall, Kayden is a determined, independent wolf with a grudge against being handled. She also has a bit of a religious side- Kayden’s pack wasn’t quite Muslim, but followed the same basic principles. Instead of following Allah, Kayden’s pack worshipped the spirits of the desert, unnamed deities who took the form of dust spinners on Earth. Kayden’s religion is the only part of desert culture that she kept.
strengths
weaknesses
historic events Kayden grew up hearing stories about the great wild wolves of Traum, but never believed that Traum was anything but a legend until she staggered onto its shores. She comes from a large desert pack that behave more as humans than wolves. Wolf females in her pack are discouraged and often forbidden from hunting or fighting, and males represent most of the power in the pack. Females are not allowed to be in the presence of a male without a chaperone present, and females are not allowed to live alone. Kayden’s mother, also a strong-willed female, taught Kayden in secret to track, hunt, and fight, though Kayden still has much to learn. When Kayden’s mother left the pack when she was barely three, Kayden became more and more drawn to risks and danger. Finally, fed up with his daughter’s shenanigans, her father, Kaluan, made arrangements for her to be mated to a burly hunter named Nelaros. Kayden, after hearing the news, fled the pack. She intended to follow her mother’s trail to Traum, where Serra had hinted she was going. Knowing that if the story circulated within the pack, his family would become a scandal, Kaluan sent Nelaros after her. After tracking Serra’s path for two weeks, Kayden was caught by Nelaros. She threatened to kill him if he didn’t leave her alone, and Nelaros, offended by a female threatening him, attacked. Kayden made good on her threat, though the effort nearly killed her. During the battle, Kayden acquired the scar across her muzzle. As she knew little of healing, Kayden pushed forward, heavily wounded, exhausted, and lost. She wandered north and west until she reached the ocean. Kayden’s surprise at such vast amounts of water (she is, after all, a desert wolf) lasted all of ten minutes, at which point she decided to cross the expanse. Kayden managed to find a narrower channel of the water, on the other side of which was an island. Kayden used up her remaining strength to swim across the channel, and her barely healed wounds from the fight with Nelaros reopened. Kayden made it as far as the shore of Midnight Beach before she collapsed, exhausted and close to death, on the sand. She was nursed back to health by Nefertiri Shemei, and made the acquaintance of Fenris Fenrir, who she grudgingly respects.
